Page of Cups: A Day for Creation

Today, I woke up a little earlier than usual. With a little less sleep, but oddly with more energy than I would have on any normal morning. But it was a little past 7 AM, and my mind was awake. My tarot deck was sitting on the desk by my window, bathing in the most sunlight it’d seen in weeks. It was about time for a reading. It took a few deep breaths, a nervous prayer, and a couple of shuffling later, before the Page of Cups revealed itself. Quite eagerly too, perhaps setting the tone for the rest of the day.

The Page of Cups presents itself as a young man in bright blue garments, his flowing scarf reminiscent of the waves that ebb and flow behind him. The charming figure holds a singular cup in his hand. To his surprise, a fish pops out of his cup. It is a happy surprise nonetheless.

Traditionally, water symbolizes one’s creativity, intuition, and feelings. Aptly, the Page of Cups comes as a reminder to allow yourself to dream and to create. To laugh and be silly, to make mistakes and grow from them. If the weeks before have been rough on you, perhaps leaving you creatively or emotionally bankrupt at some point, now is the time to recharge. Now is the time to come back to the things that you love, to the things that inspire you. Whether those be the silliest dreams from childhood, or the craziest idea you’ve had in a while.

When this card showed itself to me today, I knew that it was time for me to stop procrastinating, to realize some of those ideas that had been sitting in the waiting room in my mind for weeks. No matter the doubt, no matter the laziness. This was my fish, popping up with the beadiest stare. I’d waited for weeks to be less busy; when the weekend finally rolled around, I found that I finally had the time I was looking for, and the inspiration for the taking.

The card was clear in its message: today was the day to create.
