Uranus in Astrology

Uranus is the planet of upheaval and radical breakthroughs, bringing with it an energy that disrupts routines and old patterns, both personally and as a collective. Thus, wherever Uranus sits in your chart is where you’re meant to break the rules.

Across generations, Uranus also marks turning points in culture, technology, and values in society. Understanding Uranus helps make sense of these shifts, and your role in them.

Uranus in Your Birth Chart

As one of the outer planets, Uranus stays in one sign for seven years. Its influence is more generational than personal, meaning you will share the same placements with people within your age group (particularly, within micro-generations).

That’s why its sign placement represents broader sociocultural revolutions that define a generation.

Uranus in Aquarius

Uranus is at home in its domicile, Aquarius. Generations born during this time tend to be forward-thinking and unusually open to radical new ideas. There’s often a collective urge to break outdated systems and replace them with more equitable, sustainable alternatives.

Many in Gen Z—especially those born between 1995 and 2003—carry this placement, and you can feel it in their push for digital innovation, social reform, and reimagining what community and identity look like in a connected world.

Uranus in Scorpio

Uranus is exalted in the sign of Scorpio, fueling a generation unafraid to confront taboo topics, hidden power structures, and the darker sides of life.

Those born with Uranus in Scorpio (roughly 1975 to 1981, sometimes called Xennials or the younger Gen X) came of age during a time marked by war, political scandal, the AIDS epidemic, and other global tragedies. They grew up as cultural norms around sex, death, and power were rapidly changing—and were often left to navigate it all independently, as part of the so-called latchkey generation.

Uranus in Taurus

Uranus is in fall in the sign of Taurus. Here, Uranian energy is challenged by the indulgent, stabilizing nature of Taurus.

Historically, generations born under this influence have experienced shifts in economic stability. The 1934–1942 generation saw the end of the Great Depression and wartime resource shifts. The current 2018–2026 cohort is growing up with climate concerns, economic turbulence, and a radically altered relationship to consumption.

Most recently, society has seen the effects of Uranus in Taurus through behaviors like the COVID-era panic buying and the rise of online shopping, in an effort to maintain some semblance of security and comfort during difficult times. Unfortunately, this has set up this consumerist generation to face a more unstable, unpredictable world, with rising debt and inflation.

Uranus in Leo

Uranus is in detriment in the sign of Leo. Uranian energy is about collective progress, while Leo is concerned with personal identity and fame. When Uranus moves through Leo, rebellion becomes a performance, often centered around the self rather than the group.

From 1955 to 1962, Uranus in Leo influenced what we now call Generation Jones (1955–1967), who entered adulthood during an era of deep distrust in institutions. Boundary-pushing personas and controversial icons like Madonna, David Bowie, and Michael Jackson became the ultimate form of individualistic resistance for a generation that was too often lumped in with those that came before and after it.

Signs Ruled by Uranus

Uranus only rules one sign in modern astrology, but its influence stretches wherever innovation and individuality are needed.

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)

People with strong Aquarius placements tend to think ahead of their time. They question outdated systems, as a way to ultimately push for progress.

But their overly idealistic, if not radical nature can sometimes make them feel detached or out of sync with the present.

Uranus Retrograde

Uranus retrograde lasts for about five months every year, pulling its disruptive energy inward. While these periods can catalyze internal changes on the individual level, ideas that emerge during a Uranus retrograde often influence culture, values, and societal structures over time.

Uranus Retrograde in 2025

Pre-shadow: Begins June 29, 2025
Retrograde: September 6, 2025 – February 3, 2026
Post-shadow: Ends May 21, 2026

Uranus begins its retrograde in early-degree Gemini, a sign associated with media, communication, and thought. This could trigger growing discontent with how information is controlled, shared, or commodified. Expect more heated questions and discussions to arise about AI, censorship, misinformation, or the speed at which we consume and process news.

On November 7, 2025, Uranus moves back into Taurus, bringing the focus back to our basic needs: money, housing, food, and security. For this generation, especially those coming of age in the 2020s, it’s another reminder that the rising costs of living, wage stagnation, and environmental collapse have made traditional ideas of success feel out of reach.

This retrograde reflects a collective discomfort with outdated structures, and a growing need to redefine what security really looks like now.

This retrograde is also significant because it marks Uranus’ final stay in Taurus for the next 84 years. Once it re-enters Gemini shortly after, in April 2026, it won’t return to Taurus in our lifetime.

This marks the end of Uranus’ journey through Taurus, which began in 2018, and the commencement of its passage through Gemini, lasting until 2033. This final stretch of Uranus in Taurus a powerful time to reflect on the deeper values we’ve been redefining both individually and as a society.

To the Stars and Beyond…

Uranus is the planet of disruption, innovation, and change. It breaks patterns, challenges norms, and pushes you to think differently—whether you’re ready or not.
